In module 1, we cover the fundamentals of Newcomer and SLIFE screening by sharing the history of MLL/SLIFE identification, what’s happening state by state, what the research shows, and recommendations. You will learn about different frameworks for identification based on your unique situation and access exclusive identification resources.
This is where you will tailor your identification logistics to your unique needs. Upon completion of this module, you will have a plan of action for data collection and review of Newcomers and SLIFE.
-
In module 2, we explore how the data is usable and valuable at every level of the education system and identification process. You will learn how to take the data about your students and make it actionable. At the state and district level this includes programs and funding needed to support your students. At the school level this includes scheduling, teacher training needed, and best classroom practices.
-
In module 3, you learn about different frameworks for school retention. We build upon modules 1 and 2 that move your institution forward towards higher rates of school support and retention for Newcomer and SLIFe learners.
-
In Module 4 you will build upon modules 1-3 and cover the unique MTSS considerations for Newcomer and SLIFE learners. This module includes better understanding where Newcomer and SLIFE learners fit into the Special Education process, how the data from identification system builds a stronger foundation for determining evaluations or not, and what frameworks should be used when making these decisions.
-
Module 5 continues building on modules 1-4 looking at the big picture of identification data and how it can be used to support higher rates of graduation for Newcomer and SLIFE learners. In this module we look at data, school programs, and district wide programs and evaluate what’s working, what’s missing, and create a plan that allows you to move towards a more cohesive structure from enrollment to graduation.
-
In module 6 we reflect upon the last 6 months and modules 1-5 and build action plans for the following school year to be implemented. You will graduate from the Community of Action into our national COA community and learn how you can leverage this community and Inlier moving forward for SLIFE + Newcomer identification and support.
